In what the casual listener initially believes to be a conventional qawwali composition from composer Siddharth Kasyap, with lyrics written by Shabbir Ahmed, “Allah Bachaye” turns into a song that cautions about the desolate world of love, but is conveyed musically in a playful, uptempo mode. The lyrics further analyze that those who fall into the quicksand of romance, can only be salvaged by the almighty. Presiding the proceedings is Siddharth Kasyap who does a remarkable and, perhaps, an unprecedented task of diversifying from what could have been a straight forward traditional recording by merging the separate traditions of secular and classical with a certain rock and roll intensity added to it. The tempos are feverishly fast, and the vocal arrangements – featuring Tanvir Hussain and Saberi Bhattacharya – quickly rise to vivid, emotional crescendos. The apparent improvisational passages – supported by the mandolin playing of Jayanti Gosher, bass by Akashdeep Gogoi, and guitar by Vinnie Hutton – are marvelously extended and adventurous. “Allah Bachaye” certainly takes a complete twist as the song progresses, electrifying the naïve audiophile by stretching the boundaries of past tradition by embracing the resonance of the present and musically embracing the sounds of the future, thanks to the incredible capabilities and virtuosity of composer Siddharth Kasyap.
