Andy is of my favorite guys to follow, and here he's talking about Dr. Michael Yessis, my athletic development mentor. Not many people know of Dr. Yessis' influence—he coached the Marinoviches who then coached Nick Curson, so his influence is very deep in MMA. But even beyond that, he is the one who brought the Soviet sports science, as well as the scientists themselves, to North America. This includes plyometrics and explosive training. This changed the landscape of athletic development. Dr. Yessis is an absolute legend, yet no one except for the top of the scientific field really knows him. Thank you Andy and Joe Rogan for talking about him, I got so happy hearing this. Even with Dr. Yessis’s foundational programming (the 1x20), he wiped out nearly all the injuries of my teammates, and seriously upped the athletic performance of the whole team at all levels.
