Publisher's Summary This witty and engaging collection of essays from the charismatic star of Southern Charm offers rip-roaring stories and tongue-in-cheek advice on everything from relationships to travel to popular culture and beyond. Perfect for fans of authors as wide-ranging as Andy Cohen to Tucker Max. Shep Rose, star of Southern Charm and owner of Shep Gear, shares this irreverent and relatable collection of lessons and anecdotes about living an untamed, genuine life, raising hell yet having fun along the way. With his signature endearingly snarky voice, he explores topics as varied as the trials and tribulations of being a late bloomer, the ins and outs of ghosting, how to talk about politics without resorting to blows, the dos and don’ts of getting drunk abroad, and much more. Shep has caroused around the world, from Hong Kong to Dubai to the mean streets of Charleston, and the fact that he hasn’t been the subject of a Locked Up Abroad episode defies all logic. Average Expectations is a chronicle of one lucky SOB and the exploits that got him where he is today, with advice and stories that will help unleash your inner rabble-rouser, inspire you to live an untamed life, and remind you that at the end of the day, life is all about having fun, having a laugh, and, most important of all, being in on the joke. ©2021 Shep Rose with Dina Gachman. I love this book because it is pure Shepard Rose.I listened to the audio version at work with my AirPods only to get a few weird looks when I would randomly laugh out loud.I liked it so much I bought it in print and gave it to my daughter(big fan of the show). She told me she read it in a day and it was the only book she has actually laughed out loud reading. So kudos Shep, we enjoyed it....your a big hit with the whole family!
The author brings us into his real life and who he was before the show, how the show has matured him, and where he sees himself as he moves forward living in Shepland!I laughed, and I cried, and being that we both live in the same city I was able to see myself in the local locations he speaks of. Very nice work Mr. Rose!
A fun insight on a beloved, creative, out-of-the-box thinker who navigates his way through life by using his charm and wit to be successful without falling into the common 9-5 desk job. He’s had so many different jobs that he figured out how to land the perfect, stress-free lifestyle that suits his personality and defies the teachings of how to be successful by following what is considered to be “normal life”.
Read it, laugh, cry, open your heart & learn from it, BRAVO Shep Rose.
I will admit, I have had a love/hate relationship with Shep Rose as edited by Bravo for Southern Charm. Listening to this book as I drove from Atlanta, Georgia to the OBX, was an unexpected respite from other books or the radio. As a fellow Dawg, beachcomber, lover of Weekend at Bernie’s, ugly crier during the intro of Up, diehard fan of William Zanks, and many other regalia from his stories, I quickly realized my Spirit Animal is a fellow Southerner. This book will give you a greater understanding of the man away from an edited hot mess, and turn you into a fan. Excellent job, Shep. And, I’d order both pillows!
