"Local Legends" meets with 50-year-old Talaandig soil painter Waway Saway to learn more about his art and the lives of the people from his tribe. He talks about the tribe's main source of income and why the Talaandigs are more known for visual arts. Waway also shows the various colors of soil and the process of turning them into useful painting materials. He then shifts to the effects of climate change on the Talaandigs' agricultural production. Lastly, Waway says he takes pride in his art pieces, and stresses the importance of appreciating the essence of nature and soil not only through painting, but also by planting trees and nurturing the forests. "Local Legends" learns how tradition breeds profits in the village of Mabilong in Lubuagan, Kalinga. The program introduces Iglay Tallog, the best back strap weaver in Mabilong. Tallog looks back on her childhood, recalling how she learned to weave at a young age. She then proceeds to show the meticulous process of weaving as she makes a 'silaksakaw,' a cloth which illustrates where bowls, plates, and various kitchenware are often placed. Cirilio Bawer, a community elder, commends the skill of Tallog and discusses the history and importance of weaving in their town. Tallog says weaving will always be etched in her heart and that she will continue to weave until her dying day. Valde shows how to cook Hardinera as she shares her story, talking about her late husband and her short stay in the U.S. She also presents the story behind the 2016 Quezon Medalya ng Karangalan sa Sining at Kultura sa Kulinaryo that was awarded to her. The culinary legend also shares her goal to continuously promote Quezon cuisine. Quezon Tourism Council interim president Vladimir Agcaoili Nieto commends Valde’s cooking and determination to pass down her knowledge in cooking to the youth.
