On April 9, 2011, the boxing world was turned upside down as Japanese veteran Nobuhiro Ishida (22-6-2) faced the highly favored, undefeated knockout artist James "The Mandingo Warrior" Kirkland (27-0, 24 KOs). Kirkland was returning from a long layoff and expected to use Ishida as a showcase tune-up. But Ishida had other plans.
