Everyone knows Muay Thai. Far fewer people know what came before it. Known around the world as the Art of Eight Limbs, Muay Thai has become one of the most respected striking systems in modern combat sports. But long before standardized rings, boxing gloves, rounds, referees, and modern competition rules, Thailand had a much older collection of traditional fighting systems. This was Muay Boran. The word Boran means “ancient,” and Muay Boran is not actually one single fighting style.
