Anthony Alvarez, a senior at Lane Tech College Prep, is the first member of the University of Chicago’s Class of 2026. He received news of his admission and full-ride scholarship during a surprise ceremony at the high school on Oct. 22. Veronica Hauad, deputy director of admissions at UChicago, arrived at Lane Tech to give Anthony Alvarez the news of his acceptance and scholarship. Alvarez, who hopes to pursue a career in pediatric medicine, will be the first in his family to attend college.
