Pete went for the finish, Cole countered him and hit him with the Last Shot to retain the title. Three weeks later on NXT, Cole faced Finn Balor. Gargano came out, the ref was distracted, Cole hit Finn with a low blow and followed by the Last Shot to retain the title. Two months later at Takeover Portland, Cole faced Tommaso Ciampa. Gargano hit Ciampa with the title and Cole retained. Three months later, Cole faced Velveteen Dream. Cole superkicked Dream and hit him with the Last Shot to retain the title. They had a rematch a month later at Takeover In Your House in a Backlot Brawl Match. Cole hit Dream with the Panama Sunrise on some chairs to retain the title. A month later at Great American Bash, Cole put his title on the line against Keith Lee’s North American Title in a Winner Take All match. Lee hit Cole with the Big Bang Catastrophe to become a double
