After what Shawn Michaels did at SummerSlam 97, The Undertaker was looking for revenge. A singles match between HBK and The Phenom headlined Ground Zero, the very first match these two would have on Pay Per View. In the semi-main spot, Bret Hart defended his WWF Championship against The Patriot. Hart lose to The Patriot on an episode of Raw is War leading up to this PPV, so The Patriot thought he could do it again and take away The Hitman's championship in the process.
