Publisher's Summary Stanley Yelnats isn't so surprised when a miscarriage of justice sends him to a juvenile detention center. After all, his family has been ridden with bad luck ever since a one-legged gypsy put a curse on his great-great grandfather. He is told that the hard labor he must perform, digging five-foot holes in the dried up soil where Green Lake once sat, is meant to build character. But it soon becomes clear to Stanley that the warden is really using the boys to search for something very valuable. The story of the hidden treasure, along with the warden, Stanley's friend Zero, and the curse on the Yelnats family are all part of a compelling puzzle that has taken generations to unravel. Holes is the 1999 Newbery Medal winner for most distinguished American children's book. ©1998 Louis Sachar (P)1999 Random House, Inc., Listening Library, An Imprint Of Random House Audio Publishing Group

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you? If I could have actually listened to it.Audible has made some changes, I have used it since it was bought by Amazon, but now it won't let me use my old password at all.It let me buy this with my Amazon ID, but it won't let me access it (which for me means putting it on iTunes for my iPod) with out using my old Audible password which it has stopped accepting.Very disappointed. What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?I'd love to know but I can't listen to it.I hear it is a good book. How did the narrator detract from the book?I wouldn't know because I can't listen to it.What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment? I'mdisappointed I can't listen to it, even though I bought it.Actually this falls into the anger category as well.
This was a great book with a amazing story line, sad but every chapter ended with something happy.Overall a great book for all ages.👍
This book will always be a memorablebook In my whole life. I'll just keep reading it all over again. Is just the book that you can't get enough of.
Where does Holes rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?Among my favorite audiobooks, I would put it third from the top of the list. What did you like best about this story?I like how mister-sir always says 'this isn't a girl scout camp, and how at the end of the book camp green lake is turned into a girl scout camp!Which scene was your favorite? My favorite scene is when Stanly and Zero eat onions for a week, and drink mud water. Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?I listened to this book in one sitting, it was that good!Any additional comments?I would recommend this book to whoever likes wild west and funny stories and rattlesnake venom nail polish.
Our family listened together. Discussed poverty and racism together. The story is simple and wraps up in a satisfactory way.
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?Yes. It is very entertaining. Good book for a driveAny additional comments? My 9-year old enjoyed this book as we drove across the country.
I love the movie and loved the book just the same. A great story. Better yet, it's like three or four great stories that are all tied into one!
I remember reading this book in middle school, There’s even a movie for it. Amazing.
This book wasn?t quite what I expected when I chose it ? a slightly more serious tone than I anticipated ? but it didn?t disappoint! All the threads of characters and their stories are really well woven together.
I would definitely recommend this book! A great story to listen to as a family!
