In the 11th round, everything finally came together. A devastating left hook snapped Plant’s head back, followed by a crushing right uppercut that sent him crashing to the canvas. Though he managed to get back up, he was clearly shaken. On unsteady legs, Plant tried to survive, but Alvarez sensed the finish. He pounced, unleashing a ferocious barrage that dropped Plant again, forcing referee Russell Mora to stop the fight at 0:45 of Round 11. Alvarez entered the fight as boxing’s biggest star and the pound-for-pound No. 1—and he left as the undisputed super middleweight champion, making history by capturing all four belts in the division for the first time in his career. With the victory, Alvarez improved to 57-1-2 (39 KOs). The 31-year-old from Guadalajara, Mexico, is now a four-division world champion. He previously unified the WBA and WBC titles with a win over unbeaten Callum Smith, then added the WBO belt with a TKO victory over Billy Joe Saunders in Arlington, Texas.
