Batting first, South Africa piled up a massive 320/7, thanks to explosive innings from Herschelle Gibbs (74) and a sensational unbeaten 75 from Lance Klusener*, who transformed the innings with a match-defining partnership alongside Mark Boucher. India's chase began with an early setback, but Sachin Tendulkar (93 off 89) and Rahul Dravid (79 off 70) stitched together a breathtaking 180-run partnership, bringing India right back into the contest.
