Ruud van Nistelrooij (49) maakt vanaf 1 februari deel uit van de technische staf van het Nederlands elftal. De voormalig topspits van Oranje wordt assistent van bondscoach Ronald Koeman in aanloop naar het WK komende zomer. Met zijn komst telt de technische staf, naast Erwin Koeman en Wim Jonk, straks drie assistenten. Van Nistelrooij keert hiermee voor de derde keer terug bij Oranje na zijn actieve interlandcarrière. Hij vervulde de rol van assistent-trainer ook tijdens het EK van 2021, nadat hij eerder in 2014-2016 assistent was.
