Pilot movie for a subsequent six part mini series, 'Deep Space' (aka Space Force: Battlefront) has a lot to like even if it's a bit talky at times. Tension (mostly sexual between crew members) is palpable as the crew of a stricken moon base discover they're not alone, leading to conflict as scientists prioritise alien contact over human survival. The bureaucratic meetings and frequent crew briefings become a little monotonous after a while, but there's some humour to be found in the sign off of Morgan's character as she reminds everyone to 'stay safe out there' as Michael Conrad would've said 'Hill Street Blues' style. It's a nice touch even if inadvertent. Good sets, functional dialogue and some impressive exterior cinematography elevate what looks like a very low budget sci-fi proof of concept featuring a mix-bag of actors, some better than others - Collins playing the lesbian ace-pilot is probably the most effective followed by Busch as the cold, clinical scientist. And whilst the crew behave a lot more realistically than most movie astronauts, realism and tedium can be synonymous, and so despite the existential threat, 'Deep Space' is ultimately a little too melodramatic. It also doesn't help that it ends abruptly, opening a segway to the mini-series which follows, which won't help if you watch the movie independently of the series. Nevertheless what there is in this compact 75 minute preview is watchable if a little light on action.
Seen on Tubi, the free streaming site, which has low budget films, foreign films, older theater quality films, (mostly Warner Bros), and odds-n-ends. This renamed movie is one of the odds-n-ends. It was apparently a pilot for a TV series. As such, it is a teaser; with no ending. Skinny athletic girls, who shed duds to keep us happy. Some personality stuff; and a good helping of science. Had some potential as a stand-alone film. Not something I'd commit hours to watching.
I don't know which film the low raters saw but I found this sci-fi film to be refreshingly excellent. The plot is interesting and paced and acted in a way that is enjoyable & curious to follow. It is particularly refreshing that this film didn't rely on large breasts and large men doing stupid things in space to devise a plot line. I suspect the low raters were hoping for a movie made in that fashion. I also enjoyed the ending because it left me wanting more. After it ended I was madly trying to find the sequel. I really hope they make one. Enjoyable film, well written and well portrayed.
Ohhhhh the Ones the Ones! ALWAYS with the ONES! I've done MANY MANY reviews on here and NEVER, not ONCE given a movie a ONE! WHY? Because no matter HOW BAD the movie is, all concerned DESERVE more than a ONE for their EFFORT! This is a B movie people! You cannot Judge a movie from one scale! You have to "Scale" your review to commensurate the Level of the Movie! Judge "A" movies with an "A" scale, a "B" movie with a "B" scale!... follow me? I even saw one Review that said they turned the movie off in the beginning because the Actors dropped an "F-Bomb" LOL...anyone that has been in any type of Military KNOWS that Service men "Cuss Like Sailors" LOL....if the "F-Bomb offends you, there sure are a LOT of GREAT Movies your missing out on! Better stick to the Disney Channel! This movie had some Outstanding effects, the Actors were believeable, and the execution was very good! For the Budget they worked with, they squeezed EVERY pennys worth out of it! Had a couple of Well known Actors, the rest were very good! All in all I have this movie a 7, for Effects, Wardrobe, execution, and Acting! Again, for the Budget.... WELL DONE! Really folks, please PLEASE stop reviewing EVERY movie you watch on an "A" Scale! You'll NEVER be able to enjoy a good movie! TONS and TONS, of "B" Movies are FANTASTIC!!! Your only hurting yourself! Relax, get in the "B" Movie mindset, and ENJOY! Try it! Whaddaya got to lose?
If you watch a lot of B-films looking for that pulp sci-fi gem, this is it. Low budget? Yes. Good script and acting? Surprisingly, yes. It's visceral, human, and engaging. The sets are good enough to carry the scenes and the actors don't "ham it up". Has a similar feel to "the Expanse".
This movie had potential and the premise was decent. Acting and special-effects were fine. However, the main plot point of contact with an alien species was essentially completely ignored and the movie ended on a non-ending. Seems like the movie ran out of budget and was never properly finished.
Space Force Battlefront is a dollar store orphan of a sci fi movie that has a half decent plot, some have decent acting, half decent visuals, a half decent storyline, half decent characters and a total waste of time. You have a captain that no one listens to, a science officer who wants to make first contact even if it cost everyone their lives, a wanna be hot shot female pilot whose best maneuver is crashing her ships, and a bunch of other characters who would have got more screen time if they had taken turns doing the voice of the A. I. on the ships. All I can say after wasting an hour and 13 minutes watching this is if this was supposed to be a television series, I am extremely grateful that it was never made.
The filmmakers couldn't be bothered to give us a complete story, but they nailed the trendy stuff: strong women, weak men, interracial sex, lesbian romance, and of course, foul language. Amazon Prime Video changed the title to "Space Force: Battlefront" probably to sidestep the bad reviews.
I Enjoyed the movie very much and thought it was well done.
