The Chubb Fellowship of Timothy Dwight College
In 1936, Hendon Chubb, established a fund for “…the encouragement and aid of students interested in government and public affairs,” which In 1949, he, along with the Master of Timothy Dwight College collaborated to create a visiting fellowship program as the principle means to achieve this goal. For over sixty years the master of Timothy Dwight College has named nationally and internationally distinguished men and women to receive Yale’s highest honors for a visiting lecturer: the Chubb Fellowship.

Shah Rukh Khan came to Yale on April 12, 2012 as a Chubb Fellow in his first visit to an American university. The Chubb Fellowship is one of Yale's most distinguished honors, bringing leaders to campus to encourage students interested in public service and the public good. This official video features his full lecture; a conversation by SRK with Master Jeffrey Brenzel of Timothy Dwight College, Yale Law School student Nikhil Sud '10, Law'13, and Sarika Arya '11; and a performance of his trademark "Chammak Challo" with Yale sophomore Natalia Khosla '14. Shah Rukh Khan is introduced by Isha Ambani '13, president of the Yale South Asian Society, a co-sponsor of the event along with the Chubb Fellowship of Timothy Dwight College.
Daw Aung San Suu Kyi of Burma, who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1991 for her work promoting international human rights and democratic government, presented a public address at Yale on Thursday, Sept. 27. Her talk is sponsored by the Chubb Fellowship at Yale.
The Timothy Dwight College Chubb Fellowship is honored to present President Leonel Fernandez as the Spring 2013 Chubb Fellow. Fernandez is the, former president of the Dominican Republic, serving three terms from 1996-2000, 2004-2008, and 2008-2012. He was the first elected president of the Dominican Republic under his political party, the Dominican Liberation Party ("Partido de la Liberación Dominicana" in Spanish, PLD). In his talk he will focus on the present and future relevancy of Latin American within the global community.
Poet, novelist, philosopher, environmental activist, cultural critic, and farmer Wendell Berry will present the next Chubb Fellowship Lecture as a guest of Timothy Dwight College and the Yale Sustainable Food Project (YSFP). Join us for a public conversation with Wendell Berry at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7th. A pioneering and influential advocate for change, Berry has spent more than 50 years helping to shape the movements for agricultural and ecological sustainability. His poetry and essays flow from the rich agrarian tradition of American writing, and Berry's relationship to his Kentucky farm has been compared to that of Thoreau's to the forest — a place that nurtures his thinking about the value of physical labor, self-sufficiency, and communities of people living in harmony with the natural world. Berry has garnered international honors for his writing, winning the T.S. Eliot Award, the 2000 Poets' Prize, the Thomas Merton Award, the Aiken Taylor Award for Modern American Poetry
The Timothy Dwight College Chubb Fellowship, fall 2014 Yale University was given by Ambassador Samantha Power. She talked about her experiences and commitment to addressing world issues in her role as ambassador to the U. N. and member of the Obama administration Cabinet. She addressed world issues such as the Ebola epidemic in Africa, genocide, women's issues and terrorism.
Compassion in Action: Buddhism and the Environment, A Conversation with His Holiness the 17th Karmapa, Ogyen Trinley Dorje The Karmapa has been described as "a world spiritual leader for the 21st century" and has inspired millions of people worldwide to take action on social and environmental issues. The Karmapa speaks to the younger generation on the major challenges facing society today, including gender issues, food justice, rampant consumerism, and the environmental crisis. A forthcoming book will be based on his interactions with American university students, and focuses on living interdependence in an era of technological connectivity and emotional disconnection.
Presentation and discussion with Ambassador Susan Rice, United States National Security Advisor at the Yale Law School on October 27, 2015 at 4:00pm. This event is sponsored by the Chubb Fellowship at Timothy Dwight College and is open to the Yale and broader community.
The Chubb Fellowship, Timothy Dwight College will present Secretary Norman Mineta, former Secretary of Transportation and Secretary of Commerce, who will give a talk on his experiences as a member of the presidential cabinet and as a Japanese American youth during World War II. As Secretary of Transportation during the George W Bush administration, Secretary Mineta oversaw the creation of the Transportation Security Administration. He will reflect on those moments after 9/11 and address the current TPA challenges.
