This is when Matt Hardy betrayed Jeff Hardy. At Royal Rumble 2009, Matt betrayed Jeff and Edge won the WWE Title. On Smackdown, Matt said he no longer has to share the spotlight with his brother, saying now it’s his night and time. If we are waiting for Jeff, we are going to wait for a while because he’s at home and will remain there. He wasn’t responsible for Jeff’s past accidents, it was a burden to constantly take care of him, who was a mistake. Jeff addressed the betrayal and how unreal it feels, adding that he moves on and he focuses on the title, which he failed to win at No Way Out. On Smackdown, Edge celebrated his World Heavyweight Title win and Jeff interrupted. He challenged Edge for the title, who asked him if he is taking illegal substances again and refused the challenge. Jeff said it seems Vickie is wearing the pants in the family, dodged Edge’s offense and hit him with the Twist of Fate. Then Vickie put them in a non-title match and they met that evening, where Matt attacked Jeff, ending in a DQ. Then Matt challenged him. He was waiting in the ring next week and Jeff came out in casual clothes, who said he will never fight Matt because he is still his brother. Matt said he’s not his brother, adding that it’s not about Jeff anymore, it’s about him because he was always the more talented Hardy. Matt told him to fight him, slapped him and did it once again before Jeff quietly left.
