🥊 FIGHT DESCRIPTION: Gervonta "Tank" Davis described his jump up two weight classes to 140 pounds “daring to be great”—and after his performance, few could argue otherwise. Davis (25-0, 24 KOs), the 26-year-old rising star from Baltimore, headlined his second straight PPV and captured a world title in a third weight class by stopping Mario Barrios (26-1, 17 KOs), the WBA regular champion at 140 pounds. The dramatic slugfest ended in Round 11 inside State Farm Arena. Although Davis held the lead on all three scorecards, Barrios remained active and gave him a competitive fight through several thrilling exchanges. But in the 11th, Davis rallied, dropping Barrios for the third time with a crushing left uppercut to the body. Moments later, a barrage along the ropes forced referee Thomas Taylor to halt the contest at 2:13. “I made it tough, I definitely could’ve made it easier—but it is what it is,” Davis admitted. “I moved up two weight classes, and I got the job done.” Already the WBA champion at 130 pounds and secondary belt-holder at 135, Davis proved his power carried up with him despite conceding nearly six inches in height to Barrios. The win came less than a year after his highlight-reel knockout of Leo Santa Cruz, which was widely regarded as the 2020 Knockout of the Year.
