Although the Baltimore-native started is career three years before ‘El Brooklyn’ entered the paid ranks, Lopez has taken to the pro game with consummate ease and poses a genuine threat to Lomachenko’s reign. The sparring session, which saw both men don protective headgear, threw heavy leather throughout the session and it was more like watching violent chess. A tactical battle throughout, both men gave as good as they got and it will surely be replayed plenty of times in the build-up to their seemingly inevitable fight. Davis, who has earned the nicknames ‘Mini Mike Tyson’ and ‘Tank’ for his ferocious knockout power, watched Lopez’s knockout of Richard Commey for the IBF title in December with genuine intrigue. “He’s a good fighter.
