Their WWE feud storyline began all the way back in the Ruthless Aggression era and during mid 2011 the angle resumed when Nash returned to WWE. CM Punk got tangled up in this rivalry after losing the WWE Championship and a scheduled Nash vs Punk match had to get scrapped, leading to a Triple H vs CM Punk match at WWE Night of Champions 2011. Following this a Kevin Nash vs Triple H rivalry was penciled in for Survivor Series however that match was also put on hold due to the return of The Rock. Finally, Nash and Triple H met in the ring at the WWE TLC 2011 event. To fit in with the theme of the PPV, Nash and HHH would wrestle in a one of a kind Sledgehammer Ladder match.
