Speakers: Olga Mayoral García-Berlanga, RCC Fellow, Visiting Researcher at the Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University, Departamento de Didáctica de las Ciencias Experimentales y Sociales, University of Valencia; Ana María Caballero McGuire, Children’s Education Fellow, Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University “Why do science teachers teach inside classrooms and labs? What keeps teachers from taking students out from the classroom and into the field? The answers to these questions may be related to how we are training our teachers. Taking students to outdoor natural spaces is understood by students as a “fun” activity and by many teachers as an activity that doesn’t necessarily involve “authentic” science. Indeed, taking students out into the “wild” is often perceived by teachers as risky fun. Speaker: Kristie Tanner, PhD candidate at the University of Valencia and RCC at Harvard Fellow In this webinar Kristie Tanner shares the latest work on solar panel microbiomes and explains why these artificial structures are good sources of pigment-producing microorganisms. Specifically, the work presented in this video focuses on carotenoid-producing bacteria, highlighting the importance of carotenoids for human health and their high value in the food and cosmetic industries, and briefly sharing the latest results of the work developed on this topic as well as future plans for optimizing microbial carotenoid production.
[Information] On Wednesday, March 21, 2018, the University of Valencia IECO-UV Chair of Business Ethics, together with the Abigail Adams Institute in Cambridge and the RCC at Harvard University, organized this webinar with the purpose to offer a conversation between students and business people regarding the expectations of the future of work in business organizations. What do students expect from companies? What do companies expect from students? What does the world of work offer young people when they finish their studies? Just a job? These and some other open questions are discussed during this webinar, taking advantage of the special visit by two top senior managers of Valencian companies at Harvard University during this time.
