Publisher's Summary A door opens. An army of dragons advance. And the fate of the living rests with the dead. After obtaining the secret to creating dragons, the leader of the Fhrey has turned the tide of war once more - but gaining the advantage has come at a terrible price. While Imaly plots to overthrow the fane for transgressions against his people, a mystic and a keeper are the only hope for the Rhunes. Time is short, and the future of both races hangs in the balance. In this exciting conclusion to the Legends of the First Empire series, the Great War finally comes to a climactic end, and with it dawns a new era in the Age of Empyre. From the New York Times and USA Today best-selling author Michael J. Sullivan comes the concluding installment of his six-book epic fantasy. This series chronicles a pivotal point in Elan's history when humans and those they once saw as gods warred until a new world order was born. Set 3,000 years before the Riyria tales, Legends is a stand-alone fantasy series that is independent of the Riyria novels. But for those who do listen to both series, Legends will unmask lies and reveal the truth about Elan's history and the men and women who shaped what the world became. ©2020 Michael J. I slogged through the last two books out of respect for the author’s previous work. The final book wasn’t awful, but it also wasn’t satisfying. It seems as though all successful authors are unable to resist the temptation to moralize beyond the requirements of a plot. Such was the case in this series. The time the author spent in the underworld was a death knell to this series. It was tedious, unpleasant, and absolutely unnecessary. I will never again return to the age of empire.
6 epic books, narrated beautifully. I will be seeking everything written by this author! Im a production welder and this can be quite tedious so a good book makes my job really tolerable. This series had me excited to get to work and I stayed late listening a few times. thank you Michael Sullivan!
Very good book series.Well written and the whole series kept me wanting more and more.I am going to miss these characters. This is the first time listening to this author. Michael J. Sullivan you have a new fan!!!
Hours well spent.Atypical, everyday heros.Plenty of action and surprises.i really appreciate reading fantasy that is well written and not propped up by sex and profanity.
This whole series was brilliant and is going to leave a hole after months or reading - I am going to miss them all
Loved MJS’s books until this series. Couldn’t understand why I lost interest in finishing after the first three books. It took me a year, during a pandemic, to finally finish the series. I’ve read or listened to at least 50 books during the pandemic but had to force myself to finish The Age of Legends series.I won’t offer spoilers but I’m really disappointed in the lack of effort, slow grind to the finish, really bad dialogue, and stupid decisions by supposedly intelligent people.
The ending was hastily put together, too much about the under world then killed off the main characters with a very short demise of the whole storyline and totally changed everything. This sucks
Do yourself a favor and read anything Michael J Sullivan writes. You won't be disappointed.
If you've stuck around for this long then you won't be surprised how good it is.The only reason I gave the story a 4* is because I have too many questions still hanging, and I wanted to see one more look at what happened to one of my favorite characters. However, maybe that's a sign of more books to come. Either, way sit back and take a listen to the great Tim Gerard Reynolds! He brings both the story and characters to life!
If you have not read this series, you should! I'm hooked. I am planning on going back and reading his first series. Hopefully by then, the first book in his new series will be out. Probably not, once I start one of his books I can't put it down. Great series. I have a new favorite author!
