The girl walks through the woods to deliver food to her sickly grandmother. A Big Bad Wolf wants to eat the girl and the food in the basket. He secretly stalks her behind trees, bushes, shrubs, and patches of little and tall grass. He approaches Little Red Riding Hood, and she naively tells him where she is going. He suggests that the girl pick some flowers, which she does. In the meantime, he goes to the grandmother's house and gains entry by pretending to be the girl. He appears as a character in several adaptations. Peter Rabbit was named after a pet rabbit whom Beatrix Potter had as a child, and whom she called Peter Piper. The first Peter Rabbit story, The Tale of Peter Rabbit, was originally created in 1893 as a letter to Noel Moore, the five-year-old son of Potter's former governess, Annie Moore. The boy was ill and Potter wrote him a picture and a story letter to help him pass the time and to cheer him up. The letter included sketches illustrating the narrative. This behavior puts him in trouble when he goes to investigate Mr. McGregor’s garden despite his mother’s warnings against it. Mr. McGregor chases him with a rack and Peter runs back home frightened and barely alive. His mother puts him to bed with a chamomile tree while his siblings enjoy eating blackberries with milk.
