Publisher's Summary The sand-blasted world of Arrakis has become green, watered, and fertile. Old Paul Atreides, who led the desert Fremen to political and religious domination of the galaxy, is gone. But for the children of Dune, the very blossoming of their land contains the seeds of its own destruction. The altered climate is destroying the giant sandworms, and this in turn is disastrous for the planet's economy. Leto and Ghanima, Paul Atreides's twin children and his heirs, can see possible solutions - but fanatics begin to challenge the rule of the all-powerful Atreides empire, and more than economic disaster threatens. I love love love this series. I have them all and have listened to them many many times. I have my daughter listening to them now and she loves them.
Fantastic! Thought provoking, excellent production of arguably one of the greatest. Science fiction stories ever told.
I have known and loved Herbert's Dune Saga for many years, read all the books, watched the movie(s). Now,listening to tge story Ifind ut bothers me enormously to gave to listed to some British accented individual butcher the proper pronounciation of names and places I have known for years!!! Leto, is pronounced Leetoh, not Lea-to, Alia is Ă- lee-ah, butA-ľeah, to just mention a couple of examples!!! It is jarring and annoying!!! This is an American book, by an America author!! That is the way it should be heard by the audience!!! This is, after all, THE US!!!!
I found the ending disappointing and unremarkable. This is in contrast to how I felt after finishing Dune, Dune finished with a element of pathos while still holding the story line of Paul having lived a truly amazing life. With Children of Dune I feel truly ambivalent about any further stories in this series.
This book is written in the typical Dune fashion more of a long form poem rather than a book, but this time the story and character development was just not there. From unkilling Paul to making Gerny and Jessica lovers to the terrible direction Alea character goesto leaving Duncan a wasted character the absolutely idiotic power ranger worm costume that Lato the third (by the way he completely forgot about there already being a child named Lato the second in the first book) wears to the horrible ending that just doesn't fit the rest of the book and the ending is an obvious self insert power fantasy.
I was not as impressed with this book, where as I was with Dune. I'm taking a break from this series.
