Haggerty scored a second round KO over Andrade after an onslaught of punches, started off by his trademarked left high kick, and finished off with a right hand that had felled the likes of Nong-O and Tikao Naito. I was really impressed by Haggertys use of the lead hand in this bout, in particular his jab. This contest between Andrade and haggerty was to be fought under kickboxing rules and both men would be wearing the bigger 8 or 10 oz boxing gloves so both men had the opportunity become a 2 sport world champion, with haggerty the one muay thai champ and Andrade MMA. Despite Andrade having more experience under kickboxing than Haggerty, it was still billed as a striker vs mma contest and I saw a fair few comments from the proverbial casuals screaming mismatch because of it. To briefly summarise the change in rules set kickboxing is fought it would be now be fought With the limited clinch, no elbows, bigger gloves, and all strikes scored equally. Because the bigger gloves provide a much larger surface area to protect the head with a high guard, the scoring criteria slightly different to haggerty usual sport of Muay Thai where leg attacks are deemed to be more effective than boxing – meaning they’re scored higher, the kickboxing ruleset becomes much more about punching.
