Publisher's Summary After being bombed and shipwrecked repeatedly while serving for several wild and war-torn years as a mascot of the World War II Royal Navy Yangtze river gunboats the Gnat and the Grasshopper, Judy ended up in Japanese prisoner of war camps in North Sumatra. Along with locals as slave labor, the American, Australian, and British POWs were forced to build a 1,200-mile single-track railroad through the most horrifying jungles and treacherous mountain passes. Like the one immortalized in the film The Bridge on the River Kwai, this was the other death-railroad building project where POWs slaved under subhuman conditions. In the midst of this living hell was a beautiful and regal-looking liver and white English pointer named Judy. Whether she was scavenging food to help feed the starving inmates of a hellish Japanese POW camp or by her presence alone bringing inspiration and hope to men, she was cherished and adored by the Allied servicemen who fought to survive alongside her. From the author of The Dog Who Could Fly and the coauthor of Sergeant Rex and It's All About Treo comes one of the most heartwarming and inspiring tales you will ever hear. ©2015 Damien Lewis (P)2017 Tantor

The truth need to be told and at end I cry wine she pass away felt bad peoplewere treated so mess up
A triumphant story about the men women and dogs who fought and persevered through unimaginable circumstances.A fabulous story that I am glad was discovered and shared so those people and a wonderful dog will not be forgotten.
I really enjoyed this book.I learned more aboutWWII history and how a dog kept POW's courage up.Since my Dad was a POW, also; this book gave me more insight into what he must have suffered. In short, this book was heartwarming, encouraging and informative.
OMG This is the BEST book I have listened to since I have been a member of Audible!Damien Lewis is an author extraordinaire! I was very reticent to buy another 'animal hero' book since most of them read like a shipping-news folder.Damien used his extensive research about this dog's history and wove a web of intimate intrigue about her exploits. At times it reads like a non-fiction novel where Damien fused the stories together seamlessly. This is a story about all of Judy's companions and their experiences and losses.I HIGHLY recommend this book.
