Don Phillips, former CEO and current director of the Board of Directors at Morningstar, speaks about hiring people with a liberal arts background at "Bridging the Gap: The Power of Liberal Arts in the Age of the Algorithm" event hosted by the University of Chicago Master of Liberal Arts. Don joined Morningstar in 1986 as its first mutual fund analyst and soon became editor of its flagship print publication, establishing the editorial voice for which the company is best known. Phillips has served in a variety of leadership roles at Morningstar, most recently head of global research, before paring back his schedule to take on a part-time, non-management role.
