Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford went face-to-face in the ring in Riyadh, making official their expected fight for September 12 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. The announcement came directly after Canelo defeated William Scull to once again become the undisputed super middleweight champion of the world. Crawford is coming up from 154 lbs to face Canelo at 168, and has only had one fight in his career over 147 lbs. Crawford has won world titles at lightweight, super lightweight, welterweight, and super welterweight. He has been undisputed champion at 140 and 147. He was last in action beating Israil Madrimov in August 2024. Canelo has never lost a fight at super middleweight, improving to 11-0 at the weight with tonight’s win over Scull. This is a historic fight in which Crawford can become the undisputed world champion in the third weight category, no one has ever managed this before!
