Most of today's energy sources for mobile propulsion systems are non-renewable. All of the mass storage, distribution, mobile storage and mobile energy conversion pathways involve energy input and conversion efficiencies. This lecture by Dr Wolfgang Epple from Jaguar Landrover looks at the future of energy in passenger vehicles from a manufacturer’s view. The Automotive Industry has committed to reduce energy consumption per travelled distance substantially over the next decade. In his talk, Dr Epple discussed the various merits and challenges of these pathways for global CO2 reduction from passenger car use, and will present various solutions and discuss some of the major business and commercial considerations. Dr Wolfgang Epple is leading Jaguar Land Rover’s Research and Technology activities. He joined Jaguar Land Rover in June 2012 as Director, Product Programmes. Vincent de Rivaz of EDF Energy discusses what is at stake at the Paris Climate Summit and the responsibility of business in tackling climate change. The 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP21) is fast approaching and the pre-meeting negotiations phase is now coming to a close. As Official Partner of COP21, EDF will make a significant contribution to the important debate which will precede this major event. The lecture highlights what is at stake at the Paris Climate Summit and the responsibility of business in tackling climate change. In his address, Vincent de Rivaz describes the solutions that research and development can provide in creating a low-carbon future and the role that future generations can play. Vincent de Rivaz, CBE FREng has been the Chief Executive Officer of EDF Energy since 2003.
