The movie opens in 1930 when Errol Flynn was only 21 years old. The thirty year old actor who played the title role looked like a man fully grown, and was simply not credible as a young guy barely come into adulthood.
Eroll Flynn lived an amazing life before he made it big in Hollywood. He was swashbuckling before being a Hollywood swashbuckler. Somehow this movie makes his life boring.
Good cast played with gusto. Lots of action. Fine direction by Russell Mulcahy. Good musical score by David Hirschfelser - especially that diddy "I Captain this Voyage, Bound for South Australia". Fits the movie perfectly. As "Flynn" says in the movie, "this wouldn't make a 1/2 bad picture". And on a 10 million dollar budget, it's not. I liked it.
Very good movie exciting from start to Finish definitely worth watching.
I would like to know when the French started using George VI pennies as currency.
Got to be one of, strike that, the worst movie ever. Absolute rubbish. Its like something put together for a high school project....
I have to be honest - my girlfriend talked me into going to this movie. I'm so glad I went! Dang! Full of action and a super-cool lead. Errol Flynn was a pretty amazing person. Funny, I'd used the expression, 'In like Flynn', but never really knew what it meant. I have a new favorite movie.

Errol Flynn was born in 1909 so how could he be in his 20s when this is set in 1939. He had already become a Hollywood star by that time. A little confusing but an entertaining movie. His first film, In the Wake of the Bounty was made in 1933.
