I've gotten used to YouTube clickbait (very reluctantly), but I didn't realise the same lies now apply to films! It's marked as Horror. It isn't. It's marked as Sci-fi. It isn't. It's titled New Life. There isn't any. What we do get is two hours of a rather low-brow zombie movie. And bloody angry that the whole thing is 🐂💩. The two lead actresses are good, at least. But there's absolutely nothing else remotely good about this waste of time film. How are these film-makers allowed to lie to their public like this? Do they have no integrity, no standards, no conscience about lying to everyone? Shame on them.
nice
Wow what a steaming pile of crap that script was. What government agency knowingly sends out 1 agent (a hobbling ALS sufferer to boot) to save the world from a zombie pandemic.... There were some well known competent B actors, but with a script like this it's a hard ask to make any real enjoyable content. Perhaps the director is to inexperienced or without enough smarts see how boring and stupid this script is and fix it. NOT enough gore or Zombies or ACTION... And too much filler. I fast forwarded over half of this... I like my FFWD button. The makeup artists get a Star for the zombies, there should hjave been alot more of them though.
This is a great movie. What struck me particularly is the great writing and direction. It's a very spare movie that cuts all the excess that slows and spoils so many movies. You end up feeling for both the leads and that's really unusual and clever. It's also a very pertinent movie, considering we just came out of a pharmaceutically-created pandemic. This movie really impressed me, and it's stunning if this is the director's first movie. And, no, it's not a stupid zombie movie. If that is what you are looking for then look elsewhere. Although a pretty bleak movie, it's also a celebration of life and humanity.
Creator John Rosman has fashioned a movie which, by the time the credits roll, is unforgettable. Literally. The image of a unaware plague carrier being chased by a human bloodhound who, herself, is also hobbled by disease, is one you will carry for years. Nor is that the only image from this amazing film you will be taking home with you. Petting the lost dog, unaware of the consequences. The opening of the door at the 1:00 mark. The fate of the kind couple that simply offered help to a helpless girl. All worth noting. NEW LIFE even allows Rosman to add a new trope to the suspense film-maker's bag of tricks -- for the first Act of the story, the viewer is deliberately kept in the dark as to what is happening, and has to proactively put the pieces together. It was a gamble which could have backfired. But it didn't. Great film. Recommended. ((Designated "IMDb Top Reviewer." Hard to write a review without hinting some sort of spoiler through and through. Looks like a fast pace start in the early 5 minutes of the movie .... Behold no more when you stay on with the movie. It suddenly become a slow burn ... too slow until it lefts no spark at all. Maybe some whiff of smoke here and there and the conversation seems prolong out of no reason. If the objective to built up suspense it is surely fail in so many angle and so many countless ways. The blisters ... and the sickness until it leads to zombie like creatures that keeps opn attacking. Well maybe in the early outbreak of some sort but yeah in the end it is just that ... another zonbie plague movie minus all the legend actor nor actress in it ... so yeahh go figure ..
John Rosman's "New Life", however, is cohesive, visually stunning and highly entertaining from beginning to end. The first-time filmmaker, who wrote and directed the 85-minute thriller, makes everything feel sneakily grandeur & his directorial approach and messaging is something out of the box... At the half past Rosman frequently shifts gears to keep them in a loop so to speak, trapped within the brutal truths of their earthly existence & so do humanity still exists on pure manner ... Cinematographer Mark Evans create an epic feel while keeping the action on the ground & still maintains the first half pace with some beauty of the nature with such a professional work that it makes us suddenly dumb of what is going to come in the 2nd half which is not possible without the contribution of editing that's brilliantly carried by editorial department... Sonya Walger and Hayley Erin each give great performances, providing emotional layers through every aspect of their body language... The twist brings everything into emotionally resonant focus, showing how our two characters were more similar than they were different... The most ambitious and effective filmmakers understand what general audiences pulse & Rosman builds to a powerful resolution and ideal ending moment in New Life, using gore and traditional methods to escalate the tension & there by keeping audience in a loop...also A gentle but deathly reminder of who's in control, a tease of what's to come... Overall "New Life" feels fresh and innovative, presenting a mix that works so well that it's a wonder no one ever tried to do something similar before...
Of the movie, you will get an interesting story. I was confused because in the first 40 minutes nothing happens, that would fit into the horror genre. I once saw a movie (out of respect for this one, I will not mention the title) where even the first scene, a girl stalked by her ex, is directed like a horror movie. This one has mystery, and then at some point there comes an aha!moment and then you kinda know what is going on. So, patience, dear watcher. I saw good reviews, then decided to watch this and it paid out. Also enjoyed the absence of big a-list names, so nothing was distracting. I only wish that one poster (which does not make sense and that scene is not in the movie) would not exist. Give it a go, it has themes like ALS, which you rarely see in cinema.
