تعرض العالم (بروس بانر) لآشعة جاما بكثافة في أثناء إجراء أحد أبحاثه، والتي جعلته يتحول وقت الغضب إلى شخصية العملاق الأخضر الذي يتسبب في كثير من الدمار. يحاول بانر الوصول لمصل يعالجه من هذه الحالة ويعيده شخصًا طبيعيًّا، بينما ترغب جهات أخرى في تحويل رجالها إلى عمالقة يمتلكون القوة المفرطة ذاتها. تتصاعد الأحداث حينما يظهر مقاتل شرير يحمل قوى خارقة مشابهة لقوى الرجل الأخضر، ويكون على البطل الأخضر أن يواجه خصمًا مساويًّا له في القوة للمرة الأولى.
