The Journal of the Math3ma Institute is a scientific periodical that aims to reach wide audiences by publishing expository articles on original research across all disciplines within science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. By actively working to remove the barriers that weigh down traditional academic writing, our prayer is that wider audiences will be able to see more clearly the ways in which God has brilliantly put His glory on display in creation, thus providing an opportunity for worship in the hearts of both the researcher and the reader. A Math3ma Institute Lecture __________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Learning has been at the forefront of human activity for thousands of years. Machine learning, a much newer field, has recently gained popularity and gotten much attention in the media and in conversations around us. In this talk, I will define machine learning, describe its different branches, and explain how it works. I will also answer some of the concerns and questions that people have about the future of technology, especially as it relates to advances in machine learning. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Aimed at a general audience, The Math3ma Institute Public Lectures are engaging and accessible talks by TMU faculty and colleagues on a wide range of topics in mathematics, engineering, science, and technology, all from a Biblical perspective. All lectures are free and open

A Math3ma Institute Lecture __________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Can we teach and think about mathematics from a biblical worldview? The answer is a resounding “yes,” as author James Nickel discusses in his 2001 book Mathematics: Is God Silent? Going a step further, this talk will highlight another series of questions: What does it mean to approach mathematical research from a biblical worldview? And what does it mean to discover new math, anyway? I will address these questions by giving an example based on “A New Perspective of Entropy,” an article recently published in The Journal of The Math3ma Institute that unfolds a new connection between two seemingly disparate topics in science, namely information theory and higher mathematics. This talk will give a non-technical introduction to the ideas and will not assume attendees have prior knowledge of either subject. ____________________________________________________

A Math3ma Institute Lecture __________________________________________________________________________________________________________ We are delighted to host Dr. Abner Chou in a moderated Q&A session on his new article “The Queen of the Sciences: Reclaiming the Rightful Place of Theology and Creation,” recently published in the inaugural issue of The Journal of The Math3ma Institute. Our moderator, Dr. Tai-Danae Bradley, will ask Dr. Chou a list of pre-selected questions intended to introduce the audience to Dr. Chou’s article. Questions and discussions from the audience will also be encouraged throughout. Here is a short description of “The Queen of the Sciences”: “Historically, theology was viewed as the queen of the sciences. But in recent days this has fallen out of favor, especially due to the unpopularity of the doctrine of creation. Instead, science is viewed as its own autonomous foundation. This article surveys through the issues surrounding creation and argues that a realis
