Wrestling Bios Presents - The Complete History of the WWF European Championship Founded during late 1997, the European Championship was active in the WWE until mid 2002. Even as a midcard title within wrestling, fans still fondly remember the years the title was around. The European Championship was first won by The British Bulldog after defeating Owen Hart in a tournament held in Germany. The title would quickly gain prestige when Shawn Michaels defeated Bulldog at One Night Only, a UK exclusive PPV show held in Birmingham, England. As the years went on, others who would hold the title included Triple H, D'Lo Brown, William Regal, Test, Jeff Hardy and Diamond Dallas Page, to name just a few.
