2001 CyHawk Dual Joe Heskett, Iowa State vs Cory Connell, Iowa, 165 pounds

Heskett gave the Cyclones their first lead in the dual after destroying Cory Connell at 165. Connell was filling in for Ben Shirk, who is nursing a hamstring injury. Heskett established an intimidation factor early when Connell was penalized for fleeing the mat in an attempt to avoid a Heskett takedown. It was all Heskett from that point, as he used an array of takedowns while also trying to lock-up his infamous cradle, something that happened midway through the second period. Heskett laid back nearly the entire period, waiting for Connell to get in the right position so Heskett could lock the cradle. When Heskett began to turn Connell, the Cyclone crowd, starving for a victory over the Hawkeyes, erupted. "I knew I had to get my bonus points. I was just trying to be patient with it and it paid off," stated Heskett, who has been an NCAA Finalist the past two seasons.
