Fighting Saturday night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, the former two-time featherweight champion dropped Hugo Castaneda four times before stopping him in the 10th round of their lightweight bout on the undercard of Manny Pacquiao’s WBC welterweight title challenge against Mario Barrios. Castaneda (15-3-1, 11 KOs) came forward aggressively from the opening bell, but Russell’s trademark speed, sharp timing, and pinpoint accuracy quickly asserted control. In the second round, Russell caught the Mexican challenger with a crisp counter right hook for the first knockdown, then followed up with another barrage along the ropes that sent Castaneda to the canvas again moments later.
