Going into the game, it felt like France's attack would decide the game, but Spain came up with a nifty game plan, which was essentially: don't give them the ball. An immaculate performance from the Spanish completely starved the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Michael Olise of the ball, leaving Mikel Oyarzabal and Pedro Porro to stun the favorites and send them packing. Spain's midfield trio of Rodri, Ruiz and Olmo took a lot of plaudits, with Robbie Mustoe calling one of them the 'best player on the pitch'. After a season regaining his best after a cruel ACL injury, is Rodri back to being the best? The former Balon d'Or winner is certainly in the conversation, but there are a few others with a claim for best midfielder in the game.
