As an amateur competed in the men's welterweight event at the 2016 Summer Olympics and the 2015 European Games, in which he won a bronze medal, representing Great Britain. In 2021, Kelly took his first major step up in opposition when he faced European Welterweight champion David Avanesyan. Unfortunately for Kelly, Avanesyan showed to be the better man on the night and finished him within six rounds. Since this fight however, Kelly has gone on to achieve a 5 win streak improving his professional record to 15-1-1 (8 KO's).
