Pretty decent for a direct-to-video. Charlie Sheen, Jon Lovitz, Rosanna Arquette, and Denise Richards put in amusing parts here. I hear a lot about Denise Richards, but I think this is the only thing I've ever seen her in. Oh, and so did Estelle Harris who I'm really not a fan of. But Angie Harmon definitely stole the show. With that soft accent, and rumbling voice, it's good to see her get some film work. Hopefully she'll get some better roles in the future. I'm not going to whine about it (too much) but this is yet another major male-bashing film. Imagine a movie that said "Don't be a wo-man ... be hu-man!" and you can imagine the difference that the P.C. police would see. Overall, it's decent, light entertainment. Grade: C+
I'm not a massive fan of romantic comedies, but am a big fan of Angie Harmon, so decided to take the plunge and see this movie anyway. What a pleasant surprise! I find myself really enjoying the film, with some excellent performances, from Angie as a tough but fair Newspaper editor to Charlie Sheen as an ex-stockbroker womaniser who is forced to face his sensitive side in order that he keeps writing a newspaper column. I won't give much away, but this is definitely one to check out - very amusing, well made and a perfect antidote to the usual horror and action that I watch.
I loved this film and thought it was absolutely hilarious! The comedy is well directed and the love affair between Angie Harmon(Page Henson) and Charlie Sheen(Ryan Turner) is unexpected and comes as a surprise. Denise Richards is at good at being bitchy and is hilarous as the money hungry bimbo. The script is smart and the supporting actors (Jon Lovitz and Rosanna Arquette) give the film a good touch. I would definately recommend it!
I saw this one night on HBO with a date and it was a perfect movie for it. Sheen has had an up and down career, but found a great vehicle for his skills. Angie Harmon's usually husky voice and imagery as an ADA on Law and Order is how the movie started for her, but as the movie went on, her character subtly transformed, which is impressive. Denise Richards was priceless and nailed her part. She is usually just eye candy in most movies, but really was just the perfect part for this. Not Amistad or Schindler's list, but I have to give it an 8 for satisfying the date movie niche which can appeal to both men and women.
Loved the movie: There's a lot to like - Snappy dialogue, genuine laughs, a bit of pathos and generally warm bubble-gum feel to it. Plus, of course, Sheen and Harmon (who looks good enough to eat) - who work well together and have good on-screen chemistry ; Lovitz and Peters - always good value; Richards and Arquette - who I normally don't like, but who do surprisingly well here; and a deliciously slimy Barry Newman. It's not Oscar-nomination stuff, but it is a very enjoyable way for canoodling couples to spend an hour and a half with a bottle of wine or a bag of popcorn. Hate the message: Shallow insider trader gets caught, fired, cuckolded, and eventually finds himself and his true love though being an agony aunt, only to get revenge and 1.5 mil with what? Yup, you guessed it: an insider trade. Money wins, and they all live happily ever after. God bless America. In 'Trading Places' it made sense. Here, I thought they could have done better.
This was a good little romantic movie. It has the typical messages or themes. Many "moral to the story" moments. But, if well presented, which this movie is, I don't think people get tired of watching such predictable story lines. Movie has it all. There are depictions of greed, lust, bimbos, stupidity, ethics, romance, love. As always, this movie gives people what they want, a happy ending. You conclude that things always work out in the end, guy gets the girl, success in business if you work hard are other messages. All in all a fine movie. After watching it you do not feel like you wasted your time. WARNING: if you watch this with a chick. Be ready for some questions like "honey, what would you do in that situation." Roto
