The little piglet is the star of this modern fairy tale, mixing cliches about East Europe, proposing a story defined by serious ambiguity, offering good acting, a some eccentric story and a lot of good intentions. Nothing remarkable but just nice definition of characters, old theme of stranger in isolated community, the language , full of clues from large zone of East and Central Europe and the situations , provocative in a way or other. Love, captivity, a lost father and not the most nice father in law, some vodka and treatment like for pigs and, sure, the little pig as guide in a strange, touching, amusing and interrogative story about options, bad luck and a sweet crafted circle of events. So, Samuel's Travels ( the reference to Gulliver just works in special manner in this case )
Idk what to make of this movie. It's strangely charming but also filled with nonsensical rubbish like pigs that talk. If it was trying to convey a social commentary then it went over my head. The acting is good and the sexual tension between the two leads keeps it interesting. But that's all this movie had going for it. None of the other characters are particularly interesting. It's a mixed bag of country simpletons and a farm laborer that looks like he may be from an incestuous relationship. Who then at some point begins crawling on all fours and acts like a dog. It's obviously a dark comedy.
Impressive little movie that is worth anyone's time. Well written, acted and directed but it keeps you wondering what is coming next. Some strange choices made by some characters but it just added to the slightly weird air about this movie.
A strange film. Sam sets off to find his long-lost father and ends up a slave to a pig farmers daughter. What happens after that is a strange mix of violence, conspiring farmers and pigs that appear to talk, not that the only person that can hear them can understand them. Well photographed and acted the film moves at a good pace and I suppose it's up to the viewer to decide Sam's decisions as there are a lot of different possibilities. The classical music background was at times poignant and at others rather annoying. Worth a watch if you like a film with puzzles. The pigs acted very well.
Cute movie, a little dry to start but pays out in the end. Little bit of male nudity, not vulgar but is pertinent to the story, wasn't full frontal or sexual.
