I really hoped for the best when I saw this movie pop up. I'm a huge fan of Taye and Apryl. But dang, I really wish the writing was better. The dialogue was predictable and a bit corny. The timing was a bit off with the move and the plot points were scattered all about like confettin leaving me totally confused. I'm surprised that with Taye Diggs as the star that this wasn't written and structured better. I'm yelling to the top of my lungs, please hire me. Sucks that there are great writers out here, such as myself, that can't get a break. This story had tons of potential, but fell short of goal.
Taye and Apryl delivered in this film! In fact, the whole cast did because everyone had me laughing. I also loved that for once there was two standup characters in this movie. No cheating! Again...lol The daughter is hilarious and with a smart mouth. Her punch lines are on point and I have to start taxing like she does. Hate the character Mel and the wife showed a lot of patience through the film. Let's talk about how fine the mom's boyfriend is tho. Too bad he's married in real life but I love her too. Taye and Arpyl really brought their social media chemistry to film and I really enjoyed it, especially the bloopers in the end.
I wasn't too sure at first how this movie would turn out but I actually loved this Comeback movie. I loved the cast and the flow of the movie. Everyone's acting was on point and I honestly enjoyed this film. Me and my boyfriend stayed laughing and the writing was great. I loved Taye Diggs and Apryl Jones. Their chemistry was amazing. I would love to see them in another film again. They should definitely make more movies together. I don't want to say too much and spoil the movie for you. This movie is a must watch. This movie is great for everyone but I would especially recommend this to couples. A 10/10!!!!
I enjoy the Comback. It was fun to watch a lighthearted black movie full of heart. Taye and April's chemistry is amazing. They kind of reminded me of chemistry that Tony and Angela had on Who's The Boss. Taye is so funny and April plays off him so great. I was surprised to find this movie. I had no idea they made a movie. To see a loving movie full of different family dynamics is refreshing. I hope to see these two pair up again and again. We need more fun loving romantic comedys with a feel good ending. The Peacock network picked a winner by airing The Comeback. The little girl was a bit much. I am sure that smart little girl will do big things in the future.
Directed by Ariel Julia Hairston. A runtime of one hour and thirty-two minutes. Streaming on Peacock with a PG-13 rating. A real-life couple playing a married couple "Jeff" and "Tisa Murray" played by Taye Diggs and Apryl Jones have a decent life. Still, they want more in life. They have a daughter "Realeigh" played by Austin Elle Fisher who's smart and has a smart mouth. "Jeff" hates his job and "Tisa" is a street reporter for the local news station. She wants more and is awaiting a potential promotion to be a news anchor. God works in mysterious ways because not only did "Tisa" get the promotion but she got some other unexpected news. Something else that was unexpected was where she got promoted to, Atlanta Georgia. "Jeff" and "Tisa" are originally from Atlanta. "Jeff" mom "Dianne" played by Sherry Richards, his old best friend "Calvin" played by Karon Riley, and his ex-girlfriend "Melanie" played by Judi Johnson still live there. After some unfavorable events many years ago "Jeff" and "Tish" vowed never to return. More so "Jeff". Hesitant about going back they couldn't pass up this job. Plus it allows "Jeff" to quit his lame job and see his mom more. Soon they'll find out they left Atlanta for a reason when all the same drama starts to show its ugly head again. On top of that there are a lot of changes going on that are just hard to swallow. Will this seemingly tight-knit family stick it out or will they let past and present drama ruin their family forever? "The Comeback" is what happens when you're trying to put your girlfriend on. I appreciate the gesture but this was a little too much for me. The beginning sets the tone of what is to be expected. That first five minutes made me seriously ponder do I want to continue watching this. Taye Diggs is a seasoned actor. I felt like he watered down his acting. The acting was over the top. The jokes were cheesy and didn't land. It felt like Taye had the green light so he just did and said whatever he wanted. Taye Diggs's character was upset with his mom dating someone younger than her while the woman who plays his wife is eight years younger than him. Make it make sense. Then you have one contradiction after another. This film was one big oxymoron. I'm happy for Apryl going into acting but these are the growing pain films. Which is painful to watch. I liked Austin Elle Fisher who played the daughter. Other than that this film left more to be desired. There was one scene that made me chuckle. But for the most part, the rest of the film was trying to do too much. It got too silly, too serious, then too sappy. I give this film two mor fires 🔥🔥. #CosmoandtheMovieWithin #CosmoMovieBlog #CosmoLanier #TheComeback.
I was looking forward to this when I first saw this pop-up. As far a comedy goes, there were some parts that were funny giving me a chuckle, but all in all is was more drama than anything else. The story was a tad slow but probably needed in order to develop the characters and their family dynamic. A change in family dynamic can REALLY affect everyone. I thought that was very authentic. The other, bigger authenticity that I saw was the relationship between Tay and April characters. They're arguing fighting but still loving each other is very very authentic. I have been in situations like that with my wife. In fact I thought I was the only one who ever did this. But when Tay gave her the middle fingers as she stormed out, that was FANTASTIC. I've never seen that in a movie so it was definitely a breath of fresh authenticity.
While the script could have been a bit more developed, I loved the chemistry of the actors and the ease at which they carried the story. Taye and Apryl have a natural chemistry. While I believe she may be more of a novice, she held her own. The comeback is a great platform to introduce her to a broader audience and movie makers. I hope to see more performances in her future. As usual, Taye was amazing!!! His performance seemed to naturally elevate the cast's performances. The plot was realistic and the young girl who plays their daughter is phenomenal! The supporting cast was talented as well.
