It's like somewhere in the middle of writing or directing or editing, Crowe had a series of small strokes. Storylines make no sense, have illogical or no conclusion, or make leaps to a completely different place. It's about the military, but it's like it was written by someone who has only seen the military from a distance. Same with computers...and Hawaii...and Hawaiians...and women...and planes..... The number of big names attached to this is astounding, and I imagine all of them got nice paychecks out of it. Too bad they can't be proud of it.
I put this on as i was going to sleep last night just so i could see the part where emma stone walks in with her basic-ass gap catalog flats/capris/button down combo like she's about to interview for an unpaid internship as a wedding planner and bradley cooper says "boy i'm a goner" "When man becomes reconciled to nature, when space becomes his true background, these words and concepts will have lost their meaning, and we will no longer have to use them." Michelangelo Antonioni
When I see a movie listed that I am not familiar with, I typically do a search on it to see what others thought of it. Most of the critique on this film was negative. But I always need to be the judge. After watching this movie, I was so pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed it that I was happy that I went with my gut and spent the time. Since then, whenever it's on, I get hooked all over again. Some say it's a feel good film and I think that's exactly how I would describe it. The story, the characters, the acting, all solid. It was bright and interesting. With regard to Ng, never been much of a Stone fan but she made the movie with her zest for life and her optimistic, spiritual buoyancy. Much has been made of how her character does not look 'diverse' enough but she makes it a point to say she is Chinese, Hawaiian and Swedish. Just maybe the Swedish genes were dominant but she never wavers from and in fact embraces her Asian roots so I saw it as all good.
I've always enjoyed romantic comedy films, i also know when a movie is flat, has no context and it's overrated. I love Romantic-comedies, and i can say without a doubt, this is one of my favorites ever, together with 50 first dates, Lost in Translation and few others. Aloha has a very rich script, with an outstanding, cool, different story, showing a beautiful culture i didn't know anything about and a lot more... just beautiful. Im am a cynic person by nature, but this movie fills me with hope and makes me feel just better. Finally, the performances are just perfect, specially in Danielle Rose Russell, an amazing child with a great future, i can only wish her the best. And of course, my very favorite actor Bill Murray, he just knows how to get the job done. Not to mention Emma, Rachell, Bradley... All Amazing! This is my humble opinion. I hope everybody likes this great film!
Great movie, I enjoyed every minute of it! I laughed, got emotional and relaxed. I don't understand why the rating is so low...probably not everyone enjoys these type of movies....These days not too many movies like this are being made, unfortunately. I liked the cast a lot too, everybody fit its character perfectly. Bradley Cooper like always did an excellent job and I was pleasantly surprised by Emma Stone as well. It is that type of movie that you wish it never ends about what could have been...what if, finding the true love when you least expect and coming to terms with the past. Each character is real and well contoured, nothing in the movie seems forced or rushed.Again, good job!
