I rarely write reviews, normally only when a movie is especially amazing....or unfortunately with this one, especially disastrous. I honestly feel as though I cannot express in words how terrible this movie is, but I'll do my best. To start, considering the focal point of this movie is based on the "artwork" you'd think they would have at least come up with paintings that didn't look as if a 3rd grader made them 5 minutes before they started filming....they are truly laughable. Then there's the acting, it is some of the worst I've ever seen, which to me ruins this movie on it's own regardless of the ridiculous paintings and excruciatingly pathetic "story line" which feels as though the same 3rd grader that made the paintings also wrote the script. I wish I could have given this movie negative stars, and it's sad that the rating is as high as it is right now but it's clearly from fake reviews given by the cast and/or crew of the film. Just trust my honest review here though and stay away from this film if you value your time and don't end up forever regretting having wasted an hour and a half of your day on this steaming pile of garbage.
Here's the IMDB description: "A collection of paintings unleash horror on an unsuspecting family corrupted by the seven deadly sins of greed, envy, gluttony, lust, sloth, pride, and wrath." Here's the B&S About Movies description: The movie starts with a near-insane looking Richard Grieco screaming at his family about a painting, yelling "No respect for art!" and throwing his suit jacket about the room. Oh yeah - they kind of made this movie for me. Rolfe Kanefsky may sound like the name of a Paul Naschy character, but the writer and director is the son of Victor, who edited Ganja & Hess and Bloodsucking Freaks. His first movie was There's Nothing Out There and he's continued his career with all manner of movies that speak directly to me, like adaptions of Milo Manara comic books like Click and Butterscotch, as well as an entire series of Emmanuelle films that take her into space and into battle versus Dracula. He's also found the time to write kids' movies like Space Dogs: Adventure to the Moon and family features such as Puppy Swap Love Unleashed. Behold! What is that scratchy voice and who does it belong to? It's Tara Reid! Man, if the Italian horror machine was still in full swing, she'd be getting menaced by leather-gloved maniacs and her legs groped by the undead. Such a shame! Jessica Morris, who was once on One Life to Live, also shows up. She's appeared in a bunch of streaming horror films as of late. Hey - don't knock paying work. This is a fine slab of complete ridiculousness and reaffirms my faith in the world. All movies should start out with Detective Dennis Booker blowing himself away.
About as good as you'd expect from a movie with Greico and Reid.
Looking for a HORROR movie to watch? Looking for something different? Look no further! Art of the Dead will take you there... All seven painting are cursed! Try not to stare into the eyes of each painting too long. Each one of these evil painting will get inside your mind and cause all hell to break loose! Be warned...this movie is not for the squeamish. My wife who also enjoys horror movies, turned her head a few times during some intense scenes (no spoilers here). As mentioned, this is a horror movie which includes blood, gore, evil and more. The cast was great! So many great actors and actresses in this film including well known Richard Grieco and Tara Reid! Go check this movie out and be ready to experience the Seven deadly sins!
I enjoyed seeing Richard Greico and Tara Reid In this. Lucas Hassel, Jessica Morris, Tania Fox and Sarah French were also great in delivering their performances to carry this film. Based on art and the seven deadly sins it kept me very engaged right till the end. I particularly enjoyed the Cinematography by Michael Su. There are cinematic scenes where the camera enters the paintings and we wind up in the art work, this is wild. in one - a scenic field and a Goat Man is memorable. The creatures and FX were quality too. The story was well written and the end didn't disappoint. Well worth checking this out. You will enjoy.
The writing is what spoils this film. The plot, character work and dialogue is extremely poor. The plot is too simple and is expected from the beginning. The characters are stagnant and have no growth. The dialogue is just poor. Writing is a 2. The acting is better than average and deserves a 6.5. Once again they were not given a lot to work with. The Director should have made dozens of script changes and failed to do so. I'd give him a 6. The Cinematography was a 6.5. My advice stop using just one main viewpoint. In the end it was ok.
Worst film ever false reviews terrible acting terrible effects
Who knew Tara Reid and Richard Grieco had enough time to write their own reviews, using phony screen names? This movie is a complete and utter disaster and a even more complete waste of time.
The opening is 10 minutes of slow moving credits. This film is horrible. It's directed like a bad 70's horror compilation. The acting is non-existent the script is moronic and the special effects are a throw back to the 60's But I must say that heroin chic Tara Reid, who has a walk on has nice juggs.
Might be good if you are high on bath salts! There are adult films that have better acting, which is surprising as there are actually several good actors, all of who were having a bad day? Maybe it was meant to be a film of study - what not to do when making a film. Maybe the actors were blackmailed and forced to do this? Special effects, lighting, sound and filming was actual decent as far as bad movies go. Not even a B movie or remotely close to being a cult classic. Better luck next time!
