I thought this was a delightful film. It may be predictable, but so what? It was amusing, the scenery was beautiful and there was some wonderful singing. Acting good : Joanna Lumley on form, Hugh Skinner and. Danielle Macdonald both did a great job. Some very funny moments. Watch it, we found it very enjoyable.
The one thing you expect from an opera film, is passion, chemistry, fireworks, intrigue.. Instead we got possibly the lamest love story ever told. It simply didn't exist, and by the end you are simply left feeling empty and flat, and wondering why on earth the film makers decided this was a worthwhile journey. Simply baffled why films like this get funding when the script is so lacking..
Very Enjoyable Movie Joanna Lumely Fabulous, as usual and Gary Lewis Excellent, great mix of good actors and a bonus was My Husband An Extra having a couple of very good close ups and Surprisingly I personally didn't mind the opera singing. Great Movie Well Done.
The village life stereotypes, a good handsome boy with unmet emotional needs, a current romantic partner who doesn't seem to get it, this film has got it all, other than the Irish accent. The film isn't an exact copy of an already unflattering film, it has its own innovations. Inject some new political themes like a plus-sized woman for a lead, who is extra confrontational (but only when it's a man) and extra un-self-aware. Oh yes, she started cheating but technically not cheating on her boyfriend just being apart for a few weeks, romantic. Joanna Lumley along with Max being 2 of 3 central characters for what is I suppose a promotional film supported by the Scottish tourism board is also out of place. I can only presume this makes it easier to consume for an American audience.
