I saw this at a brony meetup at the cinema and didn't care for it. I got into the brony fandom in 2012 before season two. This movie is nothing like the old show and its to its detriment. Just awful. The jokes didn't land, the animation was dull and uninspired, the characters, when they weren't being incredibly annoying, were one note and clichè. Do not waste your time.

The movie is good by itself. But our kids & neighborhood kids that came over to watch (along with myself) were left scratching our heads as to what happened to make the ponies hate each other; where is Discord (immortal), all the Princesses (as Celestia was over 1k yrs old), the castles, Tree of Harmony, the Crystal Empire, Griffins, Mermares, Dragons, Yaks, etc. This is a good movie for the very young (as our 4yo loved it) but left the older kids (5.5, 7, 9, 10, 11, 12 & 13) wondering and really upset. Hopefully, if a sequel is made they answer these VERY important questions! This made absolute chaos in our home for the last 36hrs lol. Even our son (13) was ticked at the out come of this movie. Again, it was a good movie but needed a lot more explanation for those who are diehard fans of MLP.
Actually liked it. Wasn't really blown away but liked it's vibe. Some good jokes, and funny off references. Overall story was maybe a little simple and not totally polished, but I wouldn't call it bad. Also the show didn't shy away from showing some deeper topics, so I can certainly respect that. So overall a enjoyable experience and I'll probably be checking out the upcoming series. 7/10: pretty good.
This movie is a good kids movie. While most of the humor was directed towards kids, I did find myself laughing at a couple of them. The characters were fine and the plot was good, but expected. The biggest problem I had with the movie was the fact that it didn't have to be My Little Pony. The only thing that they shared was the power system (which was inconsistent with Friendship was Magic) and the fact the Mane Six existed. It just seems like no previous elements actually mattered. Overall it was a pretty good movie, but it definitely didn't need to be a My Little Pony one.
So basically, the animation was stunning. Not a single complaint there, however: The pacing of the movie was awful, way too many cliché story beats (Dead parent or parents, that supposed to be tense scene where everything is going wrong and you go 'are they gonna do it in time?', the whole 'it wasn't *insert magical items*... It was Us all along!'). Not to mention you had an entire hour and a half to play with and still resorted to the pacing of an episode, 80% of the movie is just a bunch of pointlessness. And the things that one would normally pay attention too or should have some sort of plot relevance with how many times they were pointed out literally didn't matter at all. Such as the reason why animals like Hitch so much other than a pointless plot reason for the queen's dog to track them down using his badge. There was little to nothing tying anything to the past parts of the franchise, and whilst on the topic: NOTHING Was explained about where Twilight or ANY of her friends or the other world leaders went and how everything got that way. In closing: Great animation, Bad story writing and flow. And also: The high school musical singing warmup reference wasn't funny.
