source: They Live in the Grey
They Live in the Grey is fine. I liked the casting, and some of the story. It's derivative of several other horror movies but never reaches the heights it could have. The direction and cinematography seemed equal to a television show like NCIS or CSI. The scares don't scare, the characters aren't ones I am compelled to find out more about.
I really enjoyed this film from start to finish. It was raw and honest, but also terrifying and intense. Every performance hit just the right tone, even the short cameos by some of the actors/actresses I have not seen previously (bravo!). Every shot had something to say and every location and moment had a dense and eerie feel to it. It reminded me of The Sixth Sense. If that's your type of horror film, you'll love THEY LIVE IN THE GREY! Great job to everyone involved!
This was such a pleasant surprise, Shudder. Lots of throwback to older thrillers of the 90s. From the acting, atmosphere, to the scares and emotional scenes, this little gem had it all. The runtime is justified by how much the filmmakers were able to create in this engaging supernatural thriller. Oh, and the ending! Watch and you'll see.
She's a broken lady that lost her own son - and is trying to make recompense for that and help other families out...but she can also see people that haven't transitioned into death.
For the first time since ever, I get a horror movie that is scary, well acted and with a beautiful story, and its not a slowburn! Amazing! This is so good, you care for the people involved and the horrors they go through. Based on their mobile phones, this has to be set in present day. Because the police officer (the husband) has a new iPhone. However, both the two women have old, tiny flip phones, from the early 2000. And everything else (most cars, kitchen appliances, houses, clothes) look at least 20 years old. I did not see the twist coming, but maybe you will :) I almost didn't watch this, because of the tacky cover. It reminded me of some B-movie from years ago. Very happy that my curiosity won over my prejudice.
Directors/writers aren't aware of The Sixth Sense of Shyamalan? They basically copied the movie. Instead of a child and a shrink they have a child service social worker who sees ghosts with a traumatic past (son's death) as the kid's mother (grandma's death). 3 characters in 1! Also the Vang Brothers "creativity" put some violent ghosts, suicidal ghosts, adviser ghosts. . . Meh! It's not Michelle Krusiec's fault, she did what she could. The trouble is the wannabe screenplay. Period.
The actress in this was just not one you could relate to or one that was even interesting. Acting abilities where overlapped with the how long this movie was. Fast-forward and you would still not miss much. So if you like long movies with not much going on in between then this is you movie.
I find the other reviews harsh so i decided to even it out. Steady character development. Slow paced but with some really creepy atmosphere doubled with scary scenes. Suspensful story. Very unsettling camera work.. On a personel level i find this movie sad and disturbing. Some images and dialogue will probably haunt me as i understand the endless grief the main character experiences. The pacing might feel on the slow side in some parts of the film but iin my opinion is needed to reinforce the feeling of anxiety between the many twists plots. Special effects are very convincing. I class this movies in the horror and psychological genre.
From the long list of horror movies I watched this was a real creepy film. I was reeled in slowly in the beginning and didnt much like a few scenes that couldve been better. But as I kept watching there a convincingly good plot with good acting. Its been awhile since I felt that creeped out and I appreciate this Movie and all those involved. It didnt give me too many jumb scares but definently gave me some eerie chills. I love the sound production I think it was perfect and added to the overall paranormal horror feel. Also a big fan of The sixth sense so I love the related vibes it was giving.
