The years 1985 thru 1987 were so intense and eventful for me, I had no memory of the events related in this documentary. I binged the whole series. There is a quote by the perp that is applicable as to what is truth,( that I will not reveal), that is unforgettable.
As a huge fan of the ID channel, I watch true crime of all types. I have to admit to being bored with this one. The first part was interesting until I realized I knew the whole story already. It was way too long, way too drawn out and could have been told easily in two hours or less. Once you got past the horrific crimes things became very dry and frankly uninteresting. I'm sure history buffs-especially once that enjoy religious history will thoroughly enjoy this. Me, as the average true crime fan, not so much.
Not great to highlight the ability to deceive people that do not believe in evolution. The docu makes you feel terribly sad for how behind mankind can possibly be. Ponzi scheming a religion via books and pieces of paper is just sad for all parties involved...... There will always be victims and always be bad guys. Don't live by a fairytale and you might be better prepared for reality.
I enjoyed this quite a bit. Such a fascinating story... I'm glad they took their time telling it. My only complaint would be that they glossed over his other forgeries that are even more impressive than the Mormon documents. Most notably the Emily Dickinson poem that passed as authentic. There is a great book called The Poet and the Murderer that tells the Mark Hofmann story and begins with the Emily Dickinson piece. If you want to get deeper into this story I highly recommend that book.
I love true crime, I love documentaries, but I didn't enjoy this one. I understand they need to tell you exactly why these people were killed, but I found the historic Mormon information to a bit boring as it dragged on. I made it partway through episode 2 and decided not to continue.
I love documentaries and am a documentary addict, specially crime documentaries. But Murder Among Mormons was poorly made, hard to follow and BORING. Could nor continue watching after second episode. Netflix we need better quality shows, not your usual garbage.
Definitely could have been done in an hour. Too much repeated and painfully slow. Showing someone twiddling their thumbs is not even filler. Netflix - pick up the pace!!
