Absolutely terrible. What was the point of the film? I havent read the book actually but i'm guessing the original plot wasn't a kid who killed girl by accidentally suffocating her with a pillow to keep her quiet so that he could keep his job. Why would we care about him or this pathetic story, or lack of? A kid gets a job then commits an accidental murder and tries to cover it up? Yes, what else? No hidden message, not even a failed attempt at pushing a narrative, nothing. Absolutely shocking and i only finished it because i hoped it would at least end in a satisfying way but i was wrong. Do not waste your time.
Just stop watching at 1hour 27 minutes. gets super awkward and weak.
This is like modern-day racial profiling against our black society... In the movie, the white girl Mary forced Big to try to have sex and it lead to a crime when she had a pillow covered over her face... Bigger was trying to get her to go to sleep later that night & this all lead to Mary coming on to him... People sometimes dont get to see the real truth of what really happens, and thats why he have to turn hiself in. He is now lost in the place of mind whether he should live for it or keep it a secret. It is really tough for us being African-American males and this is why we shouldnt date nobody from out our race. Things like this happen all of the time and we get blamed for the consequences. This whole movie was sad.... I love white people, but this was very depressing.
You know a movie does a good job when it disturbs you days afterwards. The tension builds slowly until breaking point and then sadly it just kinds of peters off in a totally different direction however Ashton's performance from beginning to end was excellent. The whole cast bought depth to their characters, no matter small or big their onscreen time was. The scenery was really well thought out and it draws you in. The settings felt intimate and it exemplified the rawness of each character.
OMG. Anyone could have wrote this script. Everything that happened in this movie was exact what I thought was going to happen next. Complete trash.
