Ghost within
Honestly, for a low budget supernatural thriller...it's really not that bad. Oddly enough, it's yet another film that shares thematic similarities with Run Rabbit Run (another being Mother, May I?, for example). Sure...it might be relatively straight forward...with a twist we've already seen this year. But it's still an engaging little picture. In which the burden of guilt turns into psychological torment. I thought the subplot about the paranormal investigator turned skeptic turned gaslighting con artist was also clever. In that it acts to subtly misdirect you from the true conclusion. It's certainly not a masterpiece or anything. But the story and acting are decent enough to hold your attention. Even though the ghost is a bit of a cop out. All in all, I'd say it's worth a watch. But Run Rabbit Run definitely does the shared theme more justice. 4.5 out of 10.
This movie is was full of predictable jump scares and horror movie cliches. On top of that, the script was choppy and the acting wasn't all that great. If the movie had gone in one direction instead of taken three unsatisfying avenues maybe it could have been saved, but every part of this felt halfhearted and unfinished. More like an exercise rather than an honest endeavor. The main character constantly breaks down into crying panic attacks, the husband is obvious from the beginning. The only interesting part of this was the paranormal investigator being a bit different than the norm. Even the ghost was tired and dull. How anyone is giving this over a 3 is a mystery in itself.
Honestly, the protagonist is terrible. You kind of the get the vibe of generally what happened, though not in detail, early in the beginning of the film. It's one of the horror movies where I felt annoyed by the protagonist which is always a death sentence. Everything horrible that happened in the movie is essentially the protagonist's fault without any redeeming quality to be seen. Some of the protagonist's husband's actions seem even warranted. To make matters worse, this movie takes itself too seriously. The combination of an unlikable protagonist, dumb script, cheap jump scares, and a sense of self-importance is a recipe for a disastrous horror movie. Avoid this movie.
Worst film I've ever watched. Terrible script and terrible direction. Actors are good but obviously aren't in control due to a poor director. Very VERY amateur. If I were these guys I wouldn't bother doing a film again. Waste of their and our time. Very boring plot. GCSE drama at best. Can tell there is no qualifications from production team. This must be a hobby that has turned into a full time job. Sloppy. Boring. Dull. Poorly directed. Worst film I've ever watched, I'd rather trap my * in door than watch another film by these guys. Don't waste your time!! Trust me you'll not gunna get that hour and half back!
This is obviously a very low budget production made by an amateur team. For that, it is a decent movie. The lead actress is very good and managed to breathe life into the absolutely abysmal script. I know you have to make allowances for budget but there is no excuse for this script. It is like something written by a GCSE student. Terrible. Sadly, the awful script sucks out any potential horror, leaving a very bland offering. 10 out of 10 to the actors for doing a very good job of trying to breathe life into this absolutely awful script. I'm sure better parts await you. As an aside, The house was cool.
Movie has many plot holes that start right from the beginning, that make it confusing and hard to get into. They bring up a family tragedy right away but when the tragedy is revealed, the main character's husband acts as it it is the first time he heard of it? It is also predictable in regards to its use of scare tactics and setting up the mystery of the murderer. The ghost is supposed to be of a little girl only the ghost seems much older, which takes away from the story. The theatrics of the creaking floor, moving doors and strange noises are overplayed and low budget at best. I have no idea how this movie could garner anything greater that one star.
Michaela Longden gives a wonderful performance and her talent really shines through. It has vibes of The Others and what you'd expect from classic ghost stories but with it's own unique flavours and moments. Although slow to begin with, once the film finds its feet it leads to a satisfying conclusion and has just enough ambiguity to let audiences make up their own minds about the morals of the characters and their ultimate fates. The visual effects are also very good and one scene involving footprints gave me chills. A well crafted indie horror with some wonderful cinematography and a haunting score to boot.
