Publisher's Summary Lieutenant Eve Dallas returns in a fast-paced new novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author J. D. Robb. Nature versus nurture... The shots came quickly, silently, and with deadly accuracy. Within seconds, three people were dead at Central Park's ice skating rink. The victims: a talented young skater, a doctor, and a teacher. As random as random can be. Eve Dallas has seen a lot of killers during her time with the NYPSD, but never one like this. After reviewing security videos, it becomes clear that the victims were killed by a sniper firing a tactical laser rifle, who could have been miles away when the trigger was pulled. And though the locations where the shooter could have set up seem endless, the list of people with that particular skill set is finite: police, military, professional killer. Eve's husband, Roarke, has unlimited resources - and genius - at his disposal. And when his computer program leads Eve to the location of the sniper, she learns a shocking fact: There were two - one older, one younger. Someone is being trained by an expert in the science of killing, and they have an agenda. Central Park was just a warm-up. And as another sniper attack shakes the city to its core, Eve realizes that though we're all shaped by the people around us, there are those who are just born evil.... ©2016 Nora Roberts (P)2016 Brilliance Audio, all rights reserved.

I loved this book. I practically gobbled it up then had to go back in order to let it digest. loved Bella's birthday party.
Always liked Nora Roberts books, especially mystery/thrillers. Her books as JDRobb are equally riveting! Can't wait till Roark & Dallas have a kid -- that will be some storyline.
THIS IS THE ABSOLUTE BEST BOOK OF THE SERIES. I HAVE THEM ALL AND I HAVE LISTENED TO ALL OF THEM MULTIPLE TIMES. THE STORY IS COMPELLING AND MOVING. BELLA'S BIRTHDAY PARTY MADE ME LAUGH AND CRY. WHAT A SWEET CHILD. I'VE LISTENED TO IT TWICE ALREADY AND AM GOING TO START IT AGAIN. IT'S A MUST READ OR LISTEN.
This has got to be one of the beat In Death to date. The twists and turns just keep coming and keeps you guessing.Love it!
Robb and Ericksen are a magic combination in this superb series. And this book is as good as it gets. Plot, characters, sizzle.Perfect. Enough said.
I just feel bored by this story. Also the writing sounded like bad fan fiction.
This is pretty close to being my favorite series. This book fit right in. Susan Ericksen did as usual a great job.
I waited for this book and when it for her I couldn't stop. I love this series and will listen to it over and over again.
I am a huge fan of this series and they usually don't disappoint. However, sadly, I think this one didn't have much depth. The main plot was compelling enough but all the usual characters just fell flat. Eve and Roarke, dare I say it, are getting a bit boring. I think they do need to get a little boost ( maybe take in a street kid or something). All the characters were thrown in but had very little substance - this isn't usually the case. It just felt a little tired and I hate saying it!! Unlike others reviews I thought Susan Ericksen did a good job and brought as much life to the characters as she could.
The story line here wasn't up to Robb's usual standards. Without spoiling it, the concept of the apprentice was good, but the way it was presented and developed disappointed me. The characters, the father-daughter relationship, Willo's obvious emotional problems, aren't developed with much insight or detail. The effects of Suzanne's death on both just didn't gel.Once the murderer's are apprehended, the book goes downhill. The interrogation of Willo was almost boring. There are of course the obligatory sex scenes between Eve and Roarke. Galahad is himself.Somerset gets a bit more filling out, as does his relationship with Eve. That was perhaps the best aspect of this book.Susan Ericksen turns in her usual performance. But I have to say when she was reading the lines of a potential victim, it was loud and annoying. I almost fast forwarded past it because it just grated on my ears.
