Celeste is a very strong woman who has been doing nothing but doing her best for him, then realising the relationship is going nowhere; she breaks up with him only to watch him finally grow but with another woman with a child. The character suffers deeply, yet still stays strong. Every man should watch this.
One of my favorite movies!! Perfect for a girls night.
Jesse and Celeste subconsciously fight to stay the same people the whole film as they make efforts to change. It's heartbreaking in the best way possible. I actually wanted a little more even though it was somewhat slow paced.
This is just one of my favourite movies ever. It's just so realistic and simple. The music, the humour, the art of filming. You can feel the sadness of reality but still feel the love. I cried so much at the end with the 'Baby' song. I always watch this movie when I maybe maybe drank one glass of wine too much. But I just feel this movie so much. It's awesome, it's great. Just watch it and enjoy it.
OK, so we as the audience are supposed to believe that Jesse's first time rollin' over and spankin' Veronica, he creampied her and neither of them, for some reason, remembered to buy the morning after pill? How polluted were they that night? Is this movie some kind of period piece? Does this take place in the 1950s? In what kind of world do you get a girl pregnant during a one night stand rebound, never call her back, and then run into her in a bookstore while your with your ex-wife and she not only seems absolutely fine but also extremely into you? Sorry, but that whole plot-line seems a little far-fetched to me. Always the laziest way to shake up a romantic drama plot line is throw an unborn baby in the mix. Other than that I enjoyed the movie though.
This movie makes my heart happy. Give it a chance, you'll know what I mean. Also, remember the SNL and B99 Andy Samberg? You won't recognise him in the film - truly versatile is my verdict. Love the complexity of the storyline - so so refreshing, the acting and their chemistry is excellent, the cinematography and background music stand out! Don't miss it - on YT.
Spoiler alert, bitter woman alert, etc. Celeste is a high-powered career girl, and Jesse's career involves surfing and sleeping off hangovers. It worked fine when they were in college, but now Celeste is reconsidering spending her life with an unmotivated loser. She breaks it off and makes a lame foray into the world of singledom. She then realizes that in 2012, most men are emasculated, freeloading shmucks, and she eventually decides that she'd rather be with a loser she loves than some random loser, or no one at all. However, several weeks have passed, and Jesse has already managed to impregnate a hapless foreign girl.
I have never seen a movie about relationships approached in such a way before.... It might be that I missed any earlier attempt in a similar fashion, but to me it seems honest and fresh, and deserves the attention of anyone open for a new insight.......try it !!
